Rabbi Joel grew up in West Hempstead, NY. He earned his degree in History and Jewish Studies from the University at Buffalo. Inspired to work in the Jewish community, he then served as a Program and Engagement Associate at Mizzou Hillel as part of the Springboard Fellowship. Wanting to delve deep into Torah, Rabbi Joel went off to learn at Aish, Sh'or Yoshuv, and the Yeshiva of Greater Washington’s Zichron Amram Kollel. In his free time he loves to go for walks with his family and enjoy a sefer with a great view.

Since Rabbi Joel and Jenny Finkelstein came, I feel like I’ve been more immersed in observant life and been able to explore what being an observant Jew means to me.
They create a space for folks to form connections and discuss things. I loved their Rosh Hashanah dinner and their support for Sephardic students on campus.
Their home is always so welcoming, and you never feel like a guest; you always feel like family. They have truly made our campus a wonderful and welcoming place for all Jewish students!
Learning programs and the like have been fantastic, and they have been nothing but joyful and hospitable to the entire community. R' Joel is an instrumental figure in maintaining the eruv around campus as well.
Rabbi Joel and Jenny Finkelstein are so incredibly welcoming. They’ve made me feel welcome in the observant Jewish community on campus, and are so kind to me and everyone I know... As someone becoming more observant, I know I can ask them my questions and they won’t judge me but will kindly explain parts of kashrut or Shomer Shabbat that I didn’t grow up with.

I would say every contribution they've made has been amazing. Rabbi Joel and Jenny offers many shiurim and learning opportunities throughout the week, they open their home every shabbat afternoon and always host students for shabbat meals, they've helped encourage students to attend minyan, and have been a big support as religious advisors
